Carmen Island Expedition December 4-9
Six on-water days
Planned Itinerary:

Day 0 Travel to Loreto, meet for evening briefing.

Day 1 Taxi ride to launch near Puerto Escondido. Group gear division and boat packing. Launch. Paddle 10 miles to a bay on the east of Carmen Island, with a view to the sunrise over the water. Set up camp, breathe the island air, and relax.

Day 2 Paddle about 15 miles to the old salt village. These salt beds were active for about 300 years, at one point supplying a good portion of the world's salt. Nature is reclaiming the rustic village, and it is a fun walk through history.

Day 3 Explore the village in the morning if not the afternoon before, and head back down the scenic coast. Stop at a freshwater spring to rinse the salt off. Continue to our target campsite, Arroyo Blanco. Perhaps a trip to the sea caves, or a short walk up an arroyo where nature has carved art out of the limestone fossil formation. . Marine fossils imbed the spectacular white formations here. Lots of lobster to see here when snorkeling, too.

Day 4 Descend Carmen Island and cross to Danzante Island for a journey of 9 miles or more, depending on the route. Danzante also has spectacular snorkeling, and sweet views of sunrise over the sea. In the darkness of the night, let the vastness of the starry sky inspire your imagination.

Day 5 Circumnavigate Danzante Island in 8 miles, stopping for a hike or two, and some snorkeling opportunities. There could also be a sunrise paddle to a nearby sea stack for the early risers.

Day 6 Finish the trip with a short morning paddle, lunch at a good snorkeling beach, and take-out near Puerto Escondido.

Day After. Fly out, or choose to stay and relax a while!
