In the National Marine Park of Loreto Join the rhythm of the sea and the stars. Visit some of Loreto Park's most remote places. Live wild on the sea! Truly the trip of a lifetime, this route may include Carmen Island, Danzante Island, Coronados Island, Monserrate Island, Santa Catalina Island, and parts of the Sierra la Giganta coast, weather permitting.Designed for paddlers with confident rough-water skills, excellent fitness, and expedition experience, Extended Expeditions incorporate several significant open water crossings (8-15nm) and paddling days up to 30 miles, but averaging 12-15. |
|
Sample Itinerary Day 0 Travel to Loreto, meet for evening briefing. Day 1 Group gear division and boat packing. Launch from Loreto to Isla Coronado. Day 2 Cross 8nm to Carmen Island and begin journey along the northern coast. Day3-6 Paddle around the remote and scenic northern and eastern coasts of Carmen Island past the sea lion colony, salt village, and colorful geology. One layover day. Day 7 Cross 4nm to Danzante Island. Resupply on nearby Liguii beach, and rest for the afternoon. Day 8 Rise early to tackle the 12nm crossing to Monserrate Island. Explore the northern and eastern coasts. Day 9 Rise early to tackle the 14nm crossing to Santa Catalina Island. Celebrate arrival! Day 10-13 Explore Santa Catalina Island, with its endemic giant barrel cactus and rattleless rattlesnakes. Author and scientist David Quammen studied this island for his book Song of the Dodo; Island Biogeography and Extinction. Because of its remoteness, the island has a high rate of endemism, or things that live nowhere else on the planet. Day 14 Cross back to Monserrate Island. Day 15 Cross to Agua Verde on the coast for resupplies. Day 16-18 Work our way up the Sierra la Giganta coast pausing at some hot springs for relaxation. Visit sea stacks on the way to a final camp on Danzante Island. Day 19 Circumnavigate Danzante Island, or relax on the beach soaking in all the great and challenging experiences. Day 20 Meet the taxi after lunch, and head to town for a shower and a cold beverage! Gather for farewell dinner. Day After. Fly out, or choose to stay and relax a while! |
