What are the prerequisites for renting a sea kayak?
Other group members are strongly urged to hold a BCU 3-star
sea award. This is the appropriate level of skill to manage the average
local weather conditions in the boats that we offer. It also ensures that
all paddlers are resources for the group, able to do basic navigation,
rescues, and towing.

|
How can I get the prerequisites?
If you're serious about sea kayaking, invest in training and assessments to refine your skills through the BCU training program. It's the most internationally respected sea kayak training for a reason! See our links page for recommended training centers near you. Another option is to hire a leader for a Guided Custom Expedition. Go where you want to go, with the companions you want to have, at the pace you choose, and have the safety of a locally experienced guide. |

Where do you pack
all the gear? Backpack-size tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads are necessary, as is judicious choice of clothing and extras. In each kayak, the paddler may use about 1/2 to 2/3 of the total space, leaving ample for the group equipment and food. The longer the trip, the more food and water must fit into the kayaks. Paddlers are also responsible for the packing and managing of their portion of group equipment or food. |
