Along the remote southern Baja coastline
Sea of Cortez

Live free with the wind where the rugged spine of the Sierra la Giganta meets the sea. The terrain is spectacular for its remoteness and beauty.

Designed for paddlers with reliable boat-handling skills in dynamic conditions, good fitness, and expedition experience, Expedition Challenge may incorporate significant open water crossing (up to 14 NM), paddling days of up to 20 miles, the potential of paddling in 20kt winds and 4-6' seas, and layover days for custom coaching and exploring. Builds competence in open water conditions through development of paddling technique, seamanship, and groupmanship. Paddling days average 13nm.

Santiago's Sea of Cortez Expedition 42 days

Itinerary: (subject to change due to weather)

Day 0 Travel to Loreto, meet for evening briefing.

Day 1, Taxi ride to launch near Puerto Escondido. Group gear division and boat packing. Launch. Shakedown paddle about 8nm to a cozy crescent of beach on the mountainous Baja coast for lunch. Camp a few miles further down the coast.

Day 2, Thirteen nautical miles and cave paintings and hot springs if we catch the tide right! Camp near Agua Verde, a tiny, endearing ranching and fishing community.

Days 3-6, Continue south along the roadless desert mountain coast, camping among some curious geological formations. Stars shine brilliant out here! Depending on weather, there may be some winded-in layover days to hike some canyons, some relaxing afternoons to go snorkeling.

Days 7-9, Weather permitting, cross 9nm to Isla San Jose, site of spectacular rock hopping on calm days! San Jose sports caves, tunnels, fossil shells and whale bones, and startlingly red rocks.

Day 10, Enjoy a final paddle beside mountains striped green and tan and red. Meet the taxi, and the kayak transport (and your luggage) for a ride to La Paz historic hotel La Pearla.. Dine together that night in town. (dinner and lodging not included in price)

Day After. Fly home from La Paz to tell family and friends about your great trip!
