Sea Kayak Rentals

To create and run your own expedition is exciting. However, there is significant risk involved. For your safety and our conscience, we hold high prerequisites and screen paddlers closely before renting kayaks.

Strong winds can come up suddenly in the Sea of Cortez and blow hard for days. Popular paddling routes have currents and constrictions where the sea state is well rougher than the wind speed alone would create. There is no published information on currents or other hazard areas for kayakers. There is no rescue service. Although it is required to carry a VHF radio and an international cell phone, there are areas with no reception. Fishermen may be your best aid, but few speak English. Our performance kayaks have skegs, no rudders, and they require a high level of proficiency and experience to handle in the open sea.

These are some of the risks and reasons why we screen renters very closely, have strict prerequisites, and require at least one hour of consultation before renting.
Then you get to sign the waiver.

All trip members must hold the new BCU 3-star sea award or the old BCU 4-star award. At least one member must have a New BCU 4-star sea leader or BCU 5-star sea leader award. Similar certifications will be honored, for example in ACA: Open Water Instructors and IT's. We may ask to see relevant sections of your log book for paddling experience.

If you have a company and would like to run your own Baja trip, please see the info at the bottom of this page.

Rental info for companies

If you have a company and want to come rent our equipment and permits to do business here, we can accomodate your needs. We will first consult with you to ensure that we have an appropriate match of equipment with experience, and that expectations on both sides can be met.

The above prices apply, and the local guide is mandatory, not optional. This is so that we comply with the conditions of our permits.

We can discuss options for links and other publicity as well.
